Don't Get Fouled Up!

Subbu once went to attend a spiritual discourse at the behest of one of his friends. But midway into the talk, Subbu looked terribly disturbed, and he got up intending to leave. His friend tried to stop him, but he refused and walked out. The friend followed him outside and asked what was wrong.

Subbu was fuming. “Did you not hear what he said? He uses foul language. What kind of spiritual session is this?”

His friend was perplexed. “What foul language did he use? I was right there. I did not hear anything like that.”

Subbu reminded him, “He said it not once, but two-three times. ‘You are all mortal as physical bodies, but you are all immortal…’ Remember now?”

“Yes, we are all immortal as souls. It is a spiritual truth. What is wrong with that?”

“Be hell with your spiritual truth! What has happened to you? You are nodding like sheep to everything he says. But I have a thinking brain. How could he call us as*#oles? Keep your immortality to yourself! I am out of here.”

So, please do not use foul words in the name of spirituality! Just because you got familiar with some grand words (from preachers, scriptures etc.) if you start asserting them as if you know what it is about, you are playing your intellect fundamentally wrong. As far as you are concerned, you are making empty sounds, and those sounds may sound very foul!

This leads to what we can call as #Igknowrance. When one is in ignorance, there is a spontaneous movement towards knowing. But in igknowrance, one assumes that he knows, and therefore, even that natural movement is inhibited. There is a sense of dead-sureness, and that induces an inner deadening of the human being.

To be a Seeker is to see the fact that you do not know. Only then is there seeking.
